The National Assembly has passed a landmark law removing the death penalty for eight criminal offences, including embezzlement and taking bribes, to modernise the country’s criminal justice system and align with international norms.
The Ha Noi People''s Court yesterday sentenced to death two former
executives of the Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines) for
embezzlement as well as mismanagement that resulted in losses of
millions of dollars.
